Old School Tech Tutorials: Uber in simple mode, designed for seniors.
Uber's app is fairly easy to use, but since adding Uber Eats, there is a lot more information on the app screen that can feel confusing to some seniors.
Uber For Seniors: Simple Mode and Requesting a Ride by Phone
Uber now offers easier ride options for seniors who find smartphone apps difficult and frustrating.
Simple Mode makes the Uber app easier to read and use. Seniors can also request a ride by phone.
What is Uber Simple Mode?
Simple Mode gives the Uber app a cleaner screen with larger text, larger buttons, fewer ride choices, and simple instructions.
To turn on Simple Mode:
Open the Uber app.
Tap Account. (bottom right corner)
Tap Simple Mode.
Turn Simple Mode on.
Seniors are free to switch back to the standard Uber screen at any time.
You will need to tap Account (the bottom right corner) and then Wallet near the top, on the right, to add a credit or debit card to pay for your Uber rides. You can also purchase Uber gift cards to use in the Uber Wallet if you want to keep your Uber spending on budget.
Save Important Locations in the Uber App (similar to favorites)
Log in to the Uber app, tap Home at the bottom left, then tap Save A Place.
Save places you or your seniors visit often, such as-
Home
Doctor’s office
Pharmacy
Beauty shop
Barber
Restaurants
Grocery store
Church
Family members and friends can also help with saved locations through an Uber Family profile.
Saved places reduce typing and make ride requests easier.
How to Call Uber by Phone
Seniors in the United States can also request Uber rides by calling:
1-833-USE-UBER
1-833-873-8237
A representative asks for the pickup address and destination. Uber then sends the driver’s name, car information, license plate number, and arrival time by text message.
The caller needs a mobile phone to receive text messages. A debit or credit card is also required.
This phone number handles ride requests only. It is not a general customer service number.
Stay Safe Before Entering the Car
Check the license plate, vehicle, and driver details before getting inside.
Wait in a safe place until the driver arrives.
Your driver may ask for the ride code.
Keep the phone charged and share the trip with a trusted family member when needed.
